Recommended Apps for Students
The apps on this page links to the iOS apps. Many of these apps have Android or Windows equivalents. If you need apps for another device, check the first page for a cross-device search.
Accessories
To make some tasks easier on your device, headphones (or earbuds) and a stylus is recommended. You can find variations of these in many stores. They range in price, but you can find both earbuds and a stylus for under five dollars.

Dragon Dictation
Dragon Dictation is a free voice to text app. If you speak clearly, it will be able to turn what you say into text, which can be copied into other applications.
DropBox
DropBox is a digital backpack. You put files and pictures in your DropBox and you have access to them from any device you use. After you set up your free DropBox account, you can download the app.
Edmodo *
You can only use Edmodo if your teacher has already set up a class. The accounts are free. You can access it as a website, a mobile website, or through the Edmodo app. Edmodo is the equivalent of our online classroom. The daily class activities will be posted and assignments will be collected through Edmodo. The calendar will track due dates and assessment dates.
Evernote
Evernote is a series of online notebooks. There is a website version as well as mobile apps.
gFlash + , Study Blue, or Zondle
There are many options for online study tools. For all three of these tools there is a website that goes along with the app (gFlash+ searches for Quizlet data sets). Quizlet, Study Blue, and Zondle allow you to set up a free account to manage your flashcards and studying. Zondle has review games, while gFlash+ and Study Blue give you multiple ways to study more traditional flashcards.
Google
Initially this looks like plain Google Search, but at the bottom it gives you access to Google Apps - like Docs, Calendar, Reader, etc.
QR Reader
There are creative ways for teachers to create activities using QR Codes. Be prepared with a QR Reader - there are many free options.
Socrative Student *
You can only use Socrative if your teacher runs a session. It is an clicker - you would use it for polling, multiple choice questions, true false, etc. There is a mobile website version and an app.
Symbaloo
SymabalooEdu is bookmarking for everyday websites. You can create an account on the website than access your favorites from any computer or mobile device by just logging in. You can have different webmixes for school, personal, etc.
Voicethread
Voicethread lets you add comments to pictures, documents, and movies. Create an account through the website version. There will be opportunities for you to reflect and comment on your work as well as the work of your classmates.
Word Reference or SpanishDict
Both of these tools are Spanish-English Dictionaries. Word Reference includes dictionaries for many other languages (French, Italian, etc) as well as a plain English dictionary and thesaurus. You can access the website for Word Reference or SpanishDict or download the apps.
